Connect Virtual Labs, McGraw Hill Education - McGraw-Hill Education

Connect Virtual Labs is a fully online, realistic lab solution that can be used as an online lab replacement, preparation, supplement, or make-up lab to bridge the gap between lab and lecture in science courses. These simulations help a student learn the practical and conceptual skills needed, then check for understanding and provide feedback. With formative, adaptive pre-lab and summative post-lab assessment available, instructors can customize each assignment then pull reports after students submit their assignments to assess student learning. The labs are fully accessible, offering keyboard navigation and screen-reader capabilities.

Originally planned for a Summer 2020 launch, McGraw Hill accelerated the release of Connect Virtual Labs to March 13, 2020, to support faculty and students when college campuses began moving classes online during the COVID-19 pandemic. McGraw Hill Connect Virtual Labs was provided for free for the rest of the Spring 2020 term for disrupted courses and deployed immediately in March by thousands of instructors across the country. Over 100,000 students received free access to Connect Virtual Labs to complete their course work. In the twelve months since the product launched, over 6,000 instructors have utilized the labs with their students and over 4 million student attempts to the labs have been made.

From more than 3,000 student users surveyed, over 90% stated that Connect Virtual Labs create a realistic, in-person lab experience for them. One student said about the labs: "I am able to complete the labs at my own pace and not feel rushed or left behind. if needed, I can repeat something to better understand." Through the pandemic (and beyond) Connect Virtual Labs ensured student learning continued in lab courses with a reliable, realistic solution.

  • Common App for mobile, The Common Application Inc - The Common Application Inc

The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated the "digital divide" that exists for students who lack reliable internet or a computer at home. As part of a broader initiative to support under-resourced students during the COVID-19 pandemic, Common App, which more than a million students each year use to apply to college, launched the Common App for mobile to enable students to complete their college applications via a mobile phone or tablet.

The app is especially useful for the thousands of students without access to a home computer or a school- or library-issued computer due to school and library closures during the pandemic.

Too often, lack of access to computers or broadband internet can prevent students from applying to college at all. Common App for mobile (called the “Common App app” by students) helps students apply to college, research financial aid and scholarships, and get advice from counselors virtually anytime, anywhere -- whether on their phone, tablet, or laptop.

Since we launched the app in mid-November 2020, it has been downloaded more than 225,000 times, providing a readily accessible and seamless college application experience.

    VITALSOURCE HELPS

In March 2020, as college campuses were forced to close due to COVID-19, many students found themselves without the course materials they needed to finish their spring 2020 semester successfully. VitalSource recognized this and quickly galvanized the publishing and campus retail community to create VitalSource Helps, a program offering students free access to etextbooks for the rest of the semester.

The program involved collaboration with hundreds of partners and publishers around the world and was launched in less than a week. Together, we were able to help more than 200,000 students at over 4000 institutions continue their post-secondary studies without interruption. Collectively these learners engaged in 3 million study sessions and read more than 24.5 million pages from May through June in 2020.
