Campus Cloud Services is a cloud-based student information system provider. Our Student Information System (SIS) is the first cloud-based, real-time solution that manages all student data in one place – across admissions, academics, financial aid, accounts and billing, graduation, and career placement. Many universities and schools were forced to shift to a remote teaching and learning model because of the pandemic. For faculty, accessing student data from anywhere was extremely crucial. The institutions that already had SIS in place and remote accessibility were able to adjust to this shift in no time. But it was tougher for smaller, nontraditional colleges with limited IT resources and year-round demand. We cater to these schools and worked to help several remain open during the pandemic by giving them instant access to cloud systems that can be accessed anywhere. Campus Cloud has built more than 350 APIs to communicate with most learning management systems (LMS), including Canvas, Moodle, and Brightspace, and with other software popular in the higher education market. By embracing an open application programming interface (API) environment, we’re able to extend our college services giving our customers the flexibility to build a system that works for them. In order to meet our growth and performance challenges, we migrated to MariaDB SkySQL as our cloud database running on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and SkyDBA for fractional DBAs with A+ proactive care. The volume of data that we’re moving and the connectivity we’re building only increased our need for a modern cloud database with high availability, scalability and security. MariaDB’s intelligent database proxy and router is included in our SkySQL multi-node deployments and it has helped increase redundancy, coordinate automatic failover, and handle concurrent connections. SkySQL’s database firewall, dynamic data masking, and other enterprise security features prevent data breaches and stop accidental and malicious queries from flooding the network and database. This is key in handling sensitive student data and personally identifiable information protected by federal laws. SkySQL powers Campus Cloud with its dynamic scalability and a zero-tolerance policy for any downtime. Universities and schools are able to lower upfront infrastructure costs, repurpose IT professionals to other tasks, and focus on projects that differentiate their college instead of infrastructure with Campus Cloud.
